About The Naturalist’s Handbook
Welcome to The Naturalist’s Handbook, where science, photography, and a lifelong passion for nature come together.
My name is Cristina, and I created this website to inspire curiosity about the natural world through original wildlife photography and accurate, approachable field guides. Every walk outdoors offers an opportunity to discover something remarkable, whether it’s a Great Blue Heron standing silently along a marsh, a colorful migratory warbler resting during its journey, or a tiny dragonfly patrolling the edge of a pond.
With a background in biology and years of studying wildlife and natural ecosystems, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the incredible diversity of life around us. Photography has become the perfect way to document those moments and share them with others. Over the years, I’ve built a collection of thousands of wildlife photographs, each representing a unique encounter with nature.
The Naturalist’s Handbook grew from a simple idea: make reliable natural history information accessible to everyone. My goal is to combine scientific accuracy with clear, engaging writing that helps readers identify wildlife, understand animal behavior, appreciate native plants, and learn about the habitats that support healthy ecosystems. Whenever possible, I also include observations from my own experiences in the field alongside information drawn from trusted scientific sources.
Many of the photographs featured on this website were taken along the Texas Gulf Coast, one of North America’s most diverse regions for birds and coastal wildlife. As the collection continues to grow, you’ll also find species and habitats from other parts of the United States, creating a resource for anyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors.
My Mission
I believe conservation begins with curiosity. The more we notice the living world around us, the more we value it. When we understand wildlife and the habitats that sustain it, we’re more likely to protect them for future generations.
Through original photography, detailed species profiles, habitat guides, and educational articles, I hope to encourage readers to slow down, look a little closer, and discover the fascinating stories unfolding in nature every day.
